Four local businesses are going full throttle to give a Shuswap family the key to a great Christmas.

The 6th annual Shuswap Christmas Car Giveaway is back, with sponsors Fix Auto, Braby Motors, Kal Tire and SASCU looking for community input to help them find a deserving recipient of a refurbished vehicle, fuel cards and $1,500 towards insurance.

“As a collective group, we want to give back to our amazing community who has supported us for so long,” Braby sales manager Justin Braby explained in the announcement. “What better way than to give away a safe, reliable vehicle to a Shuswap family!”

To help do that, they’re asking locals to submit stories of 400 words or less nominating a Shuswap-based family or individual, explaining how this gift of transportation could positively impact them.

“Tell us how a refurbished vehicle could change someone’s life,” Fix Auto general manager Derick Miller said. “We look for stories telling us that this gift will leverage the efforts someone is already making.”

Nominations for people who fit the bill can be done through direct message on the Shuswap Christmas Car Facebook page, or by email to ShuswapChristmasCar@gmail.com. Contact information for those who submit a candidate must be included as well so the committee can follow up with them if their nominee is selected.

“Help us make Christmas brighter for someone who needs it,” SASCU community and brand director Sheri Greeno stated. “Maybe it’s that neighbour who you always see quietly striving, or that volunteer who still finds time to give while working hard to change their own circumstances as well.”

The deadline for nominations is Nov. 30.
