R.J. Haney Heritage Village and Museum invites Shuswap residents to journey through time and celebrate the richness of the area’s history during the 28th Annual Heritage Week.

This year’s celebration includes a variety of events/activities, hosted by R.J. Haney Heritage Village and partner the Mall at Piccadilly.

Throughout Heritage Week, Feb. 19 to 24, people are invited to take part in an online auction where numerous items, including gift certificates, getaways and more, can be won.

The popular Best of the Shuswap Pie Baking Contest returns for its 28th year. Participants are asked to drop off their homemade apple, fruit or berry pies on Saturday, Feb. 24, between 10 and 11 a.m. at centre court in the mall. Following the judging and awards, slices of these delectable pies can be purchased for $5 each. For rules, visit salmonarmmuseum.org or contact 250-832-5243.

Heritage Week activities include a downtown Salmon Arm scavenger hunt, creative colouring pages and the On This Spot app Adventure that invites participants to explore Salmon Arm and discover the layers that make up the community’s past, present and future.

“This Heritage Week, join us for “Layer by Layer,” an invitation to dive deep into the diverse layers and stories that make your hometown special,” reads a media release from R.J. Haney Heritage Village and Museum. “Discover the hidden gems and fascinating history that surround you!”

People can also explore exhibits and take part in workshops at the Mall at Piccadilly where Heritage Week will be wrapping up on Feb. 24 with a Family Fun Day extravaganza. In addition to the pie contest, the day brings a variety of family fun activities to take part in.
