Waiving development cost charges (DCCs) is one of the ways the City of Salmon Arm is supporting BC Housing’s soon-to-open long-term community shelter.

At its Aug. 28 meeting, council passed a motion to waive and offset DCCs associated with the building permit application for the shelter at 341 and 361 Fraser Ave. NW. The contribution was estimated to come in at around $12,000 – to be funded through the city’s COVID-19 Safe Restart Grant reserve.

At its Oct. 23 meeting, council passed a motion to increase the contribution to $15,455, as the shelter’s footprint wound up being larger than anticipated. Again, the contribution is to be funded from the Restart Grant reserve.

BC Housing is expected to provide the public with an update on the shelter later this week. The facility was expected to be open mid-November.
