Highway 1 is closed between Golden and Revelstoke following a vehicle incident, Monday night.

DriveBC is reporting the collision happened sometime before 11 p.m., between the Albert Canyon chain-up area and Golden Donald Upper Road. The Trans-Canada is closed in both directions, with the next update at 1 a.m.

Motorists are asked to slow down and drive to conditions. Environment Canada is forecasting 10 to 15 cm of snow, changing to rain which could be accompanied by ice pellets with a risk of freezing rain causing slippery conditions in the region. Up to 25 cm of snowfall is anticipated over higher terrain, such as Rogers Pass and Yoho Park.

Environment Canada warns that highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. The agency reminds drivers that the weather in the mountains can change suddenly.

Monday evening’s storm is part of an atmospheric river setting up across southwestern B.C. Communities throughout the south coast are forecast to see some mix of snow and rain, with the potential for flooding in some areas.
