The return of winter snow overnight on Monday resulted in two vehicle collisions in the same area east of Sicamous the following day.
RCMP Sgt. Murray McNeil said the first call of a single-vehicle incident came in at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27, after an eastbound vehicle travelling on Highway 1 crossed the centre line and ended up in the westbound ditch, about two kilometres east of Sicamous.
“The road was very icy at the time,” McNeil said, adding no injuries were reported.
The second call came in around 1 p.m. for a two-vehicle collision involving a semi truck and Ford F-150 pickup that occurred in the same area as the previous incident. Responding officers determined the westbound Ford lost control and spun into the eastbound lane where it was hit by the semi, which had a dash cam that captured the incident.
“Again, icy conditions,” McNeil said. “The semi driver wasn’t at fault.”
The driver of the Ford was taken by ambulance to Shuswap Lake General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the semi operator was unharmed. The highway was reduced to single lane, alternating traffic for approximately two hours from 1:30-3:30 p.m. while emergency services responded.
