Chase RCMP reiterate that 911 is for emergency calls only.
The detachment was notified of a dropped 911 call from a cellphone on April 4, the day the Langley RCMP issued an Amber Alert. Before the call was disconnected, the male caller said he’d gotten the alert and didn’t have any information.
As the 911 operator was unable to confirm if there was an actual emergency relating to the call, police were dispatched to the caller’s address where officers spoke with the man.
“He eventually admitted he phoned 911 because he had been woken by the Amber Alert and was annoyed,” Const. Sarah Van Wilgenburg said in a May 2 media release. “In hindsight, he realized it was not the proper action to take.”
