Concession staff at the Sicamous Rec Centre are getting a raise with approval from the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD).

In a report at the March 28 meeting, community services manager Fiona Barton recommended implementing a $4/hour increase over the next three years to cover the costs of Worker’s Compensation and employer benefits. That would see the concession personnel rate increase from $21/hour to $25 this year, from $22 to $26 the next and $23 to $27 in the third.

When the CSRD took over management of the rec centre in 2022, they retained the concession contractor Kathleen McNeil and, satisfied with her service, formalized a three year contract in September 2023. Following a miscalculation of employer contributions in that contract, this amendment now provides appropriate compensation.

“The CSRD has experienced an excellent working relationship with Kathleen McNeil to date,” Barton said in the report, with background information from the contract recommendation demonstrating the concession’s success.

“In 2022, the revenue at the concession… exceeded its costs by approximately $15,000. The CSRD anticipates the 2023 concession revenues will again exceed the costs.”

The board unanimously approved the amendment, with the overall increase to the contract at approximately $8,000.
