After a reset in the week between the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s regular season and start of playoffs, the Sicamous Eagles started the first round with a 4-3 overtime win against the Kamloops Storm.

The thirst for the Teck Cup resulted in a tight game with the two teams exchanging goals throughout. Striking first, the visiting Eagles capitalized on an early power play when Brendan Calahasen scored. Alexander Leskiw added another marker less than four minutes later.

The Storm closed the frame with two consecutive goals after Lochlan Stefanishyn scored unassisted, followed by Nathan Bohmer, with Ryan Larsen and Braycen Dube adding assists.

After a scoreless second period, Luke Rothfros put the Eagles on top at 6:30 of the final frame. The Storm answered back 10 minutes later when Stefanishyn scored his second marker of the night, sending the game to overtime.

It was anyone’s game in the final frame until the halfway mark when Dehoog netted the win, with assists from Levi Dewitt and Angle.

The second game goes in Kamloops on Saturday night, Feb. 24, before the series moves to Sicamous on Monday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.
