Bantam Chargers rebound from injury

After being forced to forfeit their game last week due to injuries, the Bantam Chargers returned to the gridiron

After being forced to forfeit their game last week due to injuries, the Bantam Chargers returned to the gridiron to face the Cloverdale Leopards.

On Sunday in Cloverdale, the Chargers  emerged victorious, running away with 33-7 over the Leopards.

The Chargers were led by running back Trystan Kenoras who scored two rushing majors and a third on a pass from quarterback Chase Henning.

Quarterback Henning added a rushing major of his own, and Kenoras returned the favor by throwing Henning a 30-yard touchdown pass on a razzle-dazzle play by the Chargers.

Receptions by Luke Simmonds and solid running from Dylan Eugster rounded out the Chargers offensive attack.

Defensively, the Chargers played a very solid game led by Ashley Bakema, Luke Matheson and a touchdown saving interception by Trent Poroznuk, which included a 30-yard run back.  The Chargers are fortunate to have a by-week next week before they resume play in Richmond on Oct. 30 against the Cowichan Bulldogs.

The Chargers currently sit second in the standings.

Peewee

For the second straight week, the Peewee Chargers suffered a heart-breaking loss in the final minutes of the game.

Playing in Kelowna against the Kelowna Riders, the two teams fought in a defensive-minded game.

With the Riders ahead 6-0 at halftime, the Chargers took their opening drive and scored a touchdown.

Malaki Rockwell and Daniel Hall made amazing catches from quarterback Cohen Boyd to get the Chargers to the Riders 15 yard line, with Rockwell scoring on a receiver reverse.

With under a minute left in the fourth quarter, the Riders took the lead for good on a 20-yard run.

The Chargers’ defense was lead by very strong performances by Brody Beasly and Tristan Verney.
