Have you noticed the silver boxes that have appeared in downtown Salmon Arm?
These are the City of Salmon Arm’s new sidewalk recycling containers.
The containers were available for use beginning Aug. 2.
The containers have two streams: one for refundable beverage containers, and one for mixed paper and plastic or paper containers.
The containers can be used to recycle empty paper or plastic take-out containers, empty paper or plastic take-out cups, newspapers, and beverage containers.
The bins do not accept plastic bags, glass, Styrofoam, or residential recycling.
Mayor Nancy Cooper says, “These new bins are just one more way to recycle in Salmon Arm. They will help the environment by keeping more items out of our landfill. Be sure to pitch in.”
There are eight containers located at the entrance to the wharf, Marine Park, the Blue Canoe, CIBC corner, Ross Street Plaza, Shuswap Park Mall, McGuire Lake by the picnic tables on Sixth Street and Fletcher Park.
