Purchase: Property to be used for future expansion of the Salmon Arm recreation centre.
Minos Property
New acquisition: The City of Salmon Arm reaches an agreement to purchase the former Minos Greek House property with plans to use the land for expanding the SASCU Recreation Centre.

The City of Salmon Arm has made a deal to buy the former Minos Greek House property, with plans to use it to expand the SASCU Recreation Centre.

The city agreed to purchase the property for $550,000, with the acquisition to be funded through various municipal budget reserves.

In a Tuesday, Nov. 29 press release, the city states it plans to consolidate the newly purchased property with city-owned property to the north, on the corner of 8th Avenue and 24th Street NE, to create an approximately three-acre parcel. The enlarged property will be used for future development of a recreation or aquatics facility.

The city says the potential new facility will be addressed in the city’s long-term financial plan and debt strategy in the coming months, adding there is still a lot of financial and site planning work to be done before any project could proceed.

The release states city council is looking forward to working with  the Shuswap Recreation Society on this exciting, long-term initiative.

Demolition of the existing building on the property is planned for the near future.
