Salmon Arm residents will see a small increase to their water and sewer rates for 2019 and 2020.

City council supported the increase that will see both water and sewer user fees increase by 1.5 per cent in 2019 and two per cent in 2020.

In a report to council, city chief financial officer Chelsea Van de Capelle states the increase is to address rising costs related to labour, equipment and materials, as well as to build up reserves for annual capital upgrades.

Capelle notes increases to water and/or sewer fees have been infrequent, with the last increase to the water rate – 3.5 per cent – occurring in 2018. The last increase to the sewer rate was 2.6 per cent in 2016.

The impact of the residential water and sewer increase amounts to bump of $7.73, going up from $517.64 in 2018 to $525.37 in 2019. The increase for 2020 amounts to $10.49, with the combined water and sewer fees coming in at $535.86.
