Committee considers agriculture

Salmon Arm council is hoping a wide range of agricultural backgrounds will be represented on the city’s new agricultural advisory committee.

Salmon Arm council is hoping a wide range of agricultural backgrounds will be represented on the city’s new agricultural advisory committee.

Council has approved the terms of reference and is now seeking six prospective candidates to chair the committee. A seventh committee member will be Coun. Ken Jamieson.

Three non-voting members are also being recommended, including representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Economic Development Society (EDS) and city staff.

The terms of reference were reviewed by the Farmer’s Institute, John McLeod, Rob Fensom and Don Syme, as well as economic development manager Lana Fitt.

McLeod said that if he is selected to be on the committee, one of his top priorities is to re-establish the Salmon Arm Farmer’s Exchange co-operative, “where we grow our food here and we can supply locally – excess we can distribute out of the area – and bring agriculture back to the floor in Salmon Arm.”
