Oops: Cameron Morris snapped this image just as the building facade comes down and knocks over a light standard.

More came tumbling down than was expected Thursday afternoon during the demolition of the building at 160 Hudson.

As the fake brick facade from the second floor was being pushed forward, it managed to twist sideways so that one end fell flush with the sidewalk. The long, rectangular wooden structure stood momentarily on end before gravity took hold. On its way down, it hit a city light standard that was unable to support the weight, and wound up coming down with it.

Though a car was parked nearby, the fallen facade and light post caused no additional damage and no one was hurt.

City engineering and public works director Dale McTaggart said the contractor doing the demolition will be hiring another local company to replace the light, valued around $2,500.

City council recently approved a development permit for the construction of a mixed use building at the location. The building will include commercial use at street level and four residential units above.
