The Observer asked Will Hansma and Jay Simpson, the two candidates running to represent Area F, North Shuswap-Seymour Arm at the Columbia Shuswap Regional District board of directors’ table, to provide a short bio as well as answer the question: What do you think is the most pressing issue facing your electoral area and what solution to that problem do you propose?

Bio:

I live in Seymour Arm and Spallumcheen.

My wife and I have four children and 13 grandchildren who all share in the love of the beautiful North Shuswap; spending as much time up here as we possibly can. We hope to retire in the North Shuswap full time in the near future. I have a lot of local government experience, serving as Mayor of Spallumcheen for 14 years and the North Okanagan Columbia Shuswap Hospital board chair for six years. I have also served on many other boards and commissions.

What do you think is the most pressing issue facing your electoral area and what solution to that problem do you propose?

I am running in the North Shuswap because I am concerned how governance is being handled for our area; it seems that many planning issues have frustrated local residents. I intend to rectify the planning process through consultation and town hall meetings. There is a lack of proper infrastructure maintenance and repair. A concern by many residents is that the general needs of the area have not been met, such as year-round recreation and cultural activities. As your CSRD Area F director, your concerns will be dealt with properly and in a timely manner.
