Chase RCMP have had a slow few weeks, with most of their call-outs for winter driving accidents.
Police have responded to 17 accidents in the last two weeks along the Trans-Canada Highway in the Chase area, with another call Tuesday morning near Pritchard.
A semi-versus-semi accident shut down two lanes of traffic on the night of Dec. 6 on Hoffman’s Bluff.
RCMP officers were also called to a structure fire in Pritchard. While arson has been ruled out, the incident is still being investigated.
Chase RCMP also took part in a check stop on Dec. 7 as part of a provincial day of enforcement that took place throughout British Columbia.
The officers set up a check stop along the Squilax-Anglemont Road near the Holding Road turn-off that night.
The officers did not stay for long but did stop a total of 12 drivers, all of whom did not appear to be under the influence.
This is a good sign, said Sgt. Gary Heebner of the Chase detachment, noting that typical check stops in the area tend to produce a little higher numbers than other areas surrounding Chase.
With the province pushing towards more morning check stops as well, Heebner said police will be out throughout the holiday season, and will be performing random check stops.
Chase, he said, has been fairly good during the holidays in the past years, with numbers not really changing from other times.
Heebner surmises that much of this is due to demographics, explaining that many people living in the area are retired.
