The Sicamous RCMP took a 24-year-old man from Edmonton who was suffering from a mental health crisis into custody after he caused extensive damage to a townhouse unit in Mara.

At 11:30 a.m. on April 25, police officers responded to the Hummingbird Resort, and discovered a man had locked himself in an upstairs bathroom in the townhouse unit. He would not exit the townhouse unit when police asked him to.

Members of the Salmon Arm and North Okanagan detachments arrived to assist the Sicamous officers.

The situation was resolved peacefully after two hours as the man exited the unit at 1:30 p.m. He was taken into custody under the Mental Health Act and transported to Shuswap Lake General Hospital.

According to the RCMP, the man was alone in the townhouse and he was occupying it legally. No injuries were sustained in the incident.
