After premiering at the Vancouver International Film Festival in 2023, a movie shot in Penticton is coming to a theatre near you this weekend.
Wild Goat Surf, directed and produced by B.C.’s Caitlyn Sponheimer, hits the silver screen on Thursday, May 2.
Penticton’s Landmark Cinemas is hosting the movie’s premier at 6 p.m. The cast and crew of the film will spend the evening celebrating at a special event in the Peach City, as a result.
The movie — nominated for six awards at Calgary, Alta., and Chilliwack-hosted film festivals — is set at a Penticton trailer park in the summer of 2003 and follows Goat, a 12-year-old skater girl who dreams of becoming a surfer.
The movie stars Shayelin Martin, Leandro Guedes and Sponheimer, who is also credited as the writer.
Its run time is 104 minutes.
Wild Goat Surf is the third feature film to be shot in Penticton since 2021, joining Drinkwater and 13 Miles.
One documentary and three short movies were filmed in the South Okanagan city during that time.
