Plans to electrify Seymour Arm proceed

The CSRD has authorized the adoption of a bylaw that will initiate the establishment of electric power service to the Seymour Arm area

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District has authorized the adoption of a bylaw that will initiate the establishment of electric power service to the Seymour Arm area, following the successful community referendum on Sept. 28.

In that vote, 109 residents voted yes, while 49 people were in opposition.

Thy bylaw authorizes the CSRD to take out a loan, which will be repaid by a parcel tax on the affected properties. The maximum each property would pay can be $600 per year.

The cost of installing the electrical infrastructure will be shared between property owners, the CSRD and BC Hydro, with the CSRD financing the project up to $3.6 million.
