Bump and run
At dawn on Tuesday, June 28, a Salmon Arm RCMP officer was called to a pedestrian collision near Cedar Road in Blind Bay.
Witnesses describe hearing a thump outside their home. It was reported that a woman in her late 20s struck a male of approximately the same age. The male was loaded into this vehicle and left the scene. Police continue their investigation to identify the driver and determine the
nature and cause of the collision.
Man accused of robbing bank
A Salmon Arm resident is in police custody and is facing robbery-related charges after a Scotia Bank in Richmond was held up last week. Around 2 p.m. June 20, police responded to a report of a robbery when a man had reportedly walked into the bank armed with a knife, and demanded money. He then fled the scene in a vehicle with an undisclosed sum of cash.
The suspect was found by Vancouver police officers who turned him over to Richmond Mounties. Karl Danny Nelson has been charged with robbery, wearing a face mask to disguise his identity and possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace.
Property Crime
In the past weeks, police had received several shoplifting complaints from area businesses. A review of surveillance video failed to identify the person involved. Following a tip from an outside RCMP unit, police arrested a man at a home in Sicamous in which a stolen snowmobile was also located. This person is currently facing charges of theft from Zellers, Shuswap Clothing, Shoppers Drug Mart, and Askew’s Foods.
Ryan Pilkington, 29, is currently in custody for other local matters but also has outstanding warrants from Saskatchewan for seven counts of
theft, three weapons offences, two counts of trafficking cocaine, failing to appear in court, and several other offences. Police have requested the court return him to Saskatchewan.
“We have included property crime issues as a priority issue in the crime reduction strategy. Complexities into such issues involve travelling criminals targeting the area and the relationship to drug crime,” says RCMP Staff Sgt. Kevin Keane.
Patrols added to Blind Bay event
Members of the Salmon Arm detachment are pleased to support community organizers for the Canada Day celebrations in Blind Bay.
The nighttime events in Blind Bay have concluded with the fireworks display. Police have identified that following this event there is an increase of crime and disorder in the area. These issues primarily centre around liquor and youth intoxication. As such, police will be dedicating several officers to the area, and will enforce a zero tolerance attitude towards such issues. Police request that if your teenage children are attending this event, you monitor their activities accordingly.
