A Salmon Arm police officer has been acquitted of dangerous driving.

On Thursday afternoon in Provincial Court in Salmon Arm, Judge Anne Wallace made her ruling on Day 6 of the trial of Const. Micah Chan.

Chan was charged in connection with an incident on the night of June 20, 2013, when a white Chevrolet driven by 21-year-old Courtney Eggen of Cherryville crashed into a parked dump truck in the Salmon Arm industrial park, killing her. Shortly after, a police cruiser driven by Chan went off the road nearby, sliding backwards down an embankment.

The judge's ruling was met with much emotion, both from the police officers in attendance and Courtney's parents, Helen and Ian Eggen.

The Eggens said following the ruling that they don't blame Chan for their daughter's death and they appreciated the judge's indepth decision.

More details to follow.
