Sorrento Elementary under review

School District #83 has decided to review the space available at Sorrento Elementary with a view to closing off a portion of the school to save money.

The elementary school is operating well below the building’s capacity for students and enrolment is not projected to increase in the near future.

Closing off classrooms would allow for savings in terms of custodial, maintenance and heating costs.

Due to the layout of the school, however, there may be challenges in determining which areas could be closed off.

The board has also affirmed its commitment to renovate the library space at Carlin Elementary/Middle School, with a particular view towards creating a common area for middle school students to congregate.

The budget and scope of the renovations are still to be determined.
