The Shuswap Watershed Council, a partnership of local governments, First Nations and others, recently completed community open house meetings at several Shuswap locations as part of its plan to develop a water-quality program.
“The purpose of the meetings was to present recent water-quality findings that the former Shuswap Lake Integrated Planning Process helped pull together, as well as present the council’s proposal for a water quality program that would begin in 2015,” said Paul Demenok, chair of the Shuswap Watershed Council and CSRD Electoral Area C director.
Residents and visitors who were not able to attend an open house can learn about the proposal on the Shuswap Watershed Council website, www.shuswapwater.ca.
“The council is inviting residents and visitors to learn about what’s proposed, and provide their feedback,” said Shuswap Watershed Council program manager Erin Vieira. “The online commenting period will be open until Aug. 15.”
In addition to a water-quality program, the council is proposing a recreation safety education program. The Shuswap Watershed Council will have its final proposal ready by the end of September.
