Update: Man dies near Chase in midnight crash

The BC Coroners Service has released the name of the man who was killed when a small truck crossed the centre line and struck a semi.

A man died in a vehicle accident on Highway 1, just west of Pritchard, at approximately 12:02 a.m. Thursday, July 17.

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed his identity as John Findlay Linklater, age 58, of Chase.

Linklater was the driver and sole occupant of a small pick-up truck which was heading east on Highway 1 just after midnight on Thursday, July 17.

Police report that the truck crossed over the centre line and collided with an oncoming semi truck/trailer unit travelling west.

Chase RCMP and the BC Ambulance Service arrived on scene and located the driver of the pick up, who had died from injuries suffered in the collision. The driver of the semi unit was not injured. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and the highway was closed to for more than four hours to accommodate the RCMP collision analyst.

The BC Coroner Service was on scene as well as the Pritchard Volunteer Fire Department.

The cause of the fatal collision is not known but neither speed nor impairment are suspected.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
