Two third-period goals lifted the Vernon Vipers to a 2-1 win over the visiting Salmon Arm Silverbacks in B.C. Hockey League action Friday night in front of nearly 2,400 fans at Kal Tire Place.
The loss snapped Salmon Arm’s six-game winning streak.
Vipers veteran TJ Dumonceaux scored the winner from the slot at 18:12, one-timing a beautiful pass from Thomas Aldworth past a brilliant Angus Redmond in goal for Salmon Arm.
Luke Shiplo’s powerplay goal, a screen shot from the blueline, floated past Redmond at 1:53 to even the game at 1-1.
Shiplo’s goal was the first allowed by Redmond against the Vipers in 161 minutes and 53 seconds over a span of three games and eight-plus periods.
The Langley native finished with 34 saves as Vernon outshot the Silverbacks 35-25.
Towering defenceman Phil Middleton opened the scoring for Salmon Arm with a powerplay marker.
The Silverbacks lost defenceman Andrew Farny midway through the game when he suffered a deep gash on the back of his leg after a collision with Vernon’s Colton McCarthy. Farny was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital to have the leg examined.
The extent of the injury was not known immediately after the game.
Each team has now won three games in the season series with one tie. The two teams meet one final time in the regular season Feb. 21 at the Shaw Centre in Salmon Arm.
