Wildfire near Skimikin

Fire on Mount Chase estimated to be one hectare in size.

A wildfire is burning on Mount Chase, 10 kilometres south-east of Skimikin.

Firefighters have been deployed to a wildfire west of Skimikin.

The BC Wildfire Service estimates the fire, discovered on Thursday, July 27, at one hectare in size. It’s located on Mount Chase, approximately 10 kilometres south-west of Skimikin.

BC Wildfire Service fire information officer Jodi Lucius called it a Rank 1, smouldering ground fire, believed to have been started by lightning.

Lucius said a rappel crew was helicoptered in this morning, Friday, July 28, and that there are currently 23 firefighters working on it.
