Born June 29, 1933; died at St. Catharines General Hospital on June 17, 2022. Alan was born and raised on a family farm in the small community of Silver Creek, BC. He graduated from UBC as a mechanical engineer in 1955. In 1962, he obtained his Master's in City Planning from MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts. As a City Planner, he first worked as a consultant in Toronto before moving to St. Catharines in 1971, where he served as the Director of Planning for the Regional Municipality of Niagara until retiring in 1998.
He leaves behind his wife Janet; daughters Alison (Gerald) of Vancouver, Jennifer (Luc) of Ottawa and Lesley (Cory) of Guelph; granddaughters Erin (Tristan), Gwyn, Joelle and Amelie; siblings Brian (deceased) (Millie), Ken, Mary (Tom) and Dave (Mary); and numerous nephews and nieces. He was much loved and will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Doctors Without Borders or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be welcomed.
