In loving memory ~
Alf Allan Peterson passed away late in the evening of December 24th, 2022.
Alf was born on January 25th, 1928 in Salmon Arm, the seventh of eight children, to Swedish immigrants Ed and Mina Peterson. He grew up on the family farm on Peterson Road (now 35th ST NE) and attended the Broadview School and later the Salmon Arm High School.
As an adult, he joined his father and brothers to form Peterson Bros. As a company, they ran their own orchards, rented others, raised hay and occasionally other grains, built roads, mostly in the mountains for logging, contracted with the town to snowplows in the winter, helped in building one of the town's reservoirs and were the John Deere and Homelite dealer for many years.
He was an avid dancer. A frequent entry in his brother Hjalmar's diary was "Alf out to a dance tonight" He loved both Old Time and Square Dancing and was heavily involved in both activities until his knees gave out on him in his early seventies. It was at a square dance in Chase that he met his wife, Edna Acheson.
Alf and Edna were married in Chase, B.C. on July 1st, 1963. They settled on an orchard on North Broadview Road (30th St.) less than half a mile from the main farm. They had three children; Allan in 1964, Jane in 1966 and Nancy in 1971.
Alf held a great interest in local history. He and Edna were long time members of the Okanagan Historical Society and donated a number of items to Haney Heritage Park. He was also involved in the apple industry as a delegate for this area to the B.C. Fruit Growers Association for over 20 years.
He loved to travel. In his youth, he travelled through many of the northern and coastal states and down into Mexico, plus several provinces. With his family, they saw all the west coast states again, plus Hawaii, Alberta, and many, many places in B.C. He loved the outdoors and family day trips were often on any backroad he could find.
In the early 2000's Alf and Edna moved back to the farm on 35th St. Where he grew up. He spent the rest of his life there.
Alf is predeceased by his parents, Ed and Mina Peterson, his sisters Violet Peterson, Margaret Wren and Ingrid Landers and his brothers Hubert, Elmer, Hjalmer and Floyd.
He is survived by his wife, Edna, and children, Allan (Laura) Peterson, Jane (Brian) Bettles and Nancy Peterson as well as their children and grandchildren plus three generations of nieces and nephews and cousins. We all love you. Rest easy.
