O’Connell (Stogre) Barbara Jeannette
Born June 14, 1940, passed away on June 24, 2008, after dealing with the results of ovarian cancer for the last 1½ years.
Barbara was predeceased by her sister, Diane Stogre Power, mother, Dorothy Stogre and father, Stephen Stogre. She is survived by her loving husband and companion of 49 years, Patrick; son, Rod (Karen); daughter, Shannon-Tara Ames (Jerry); brother, Roger Stogre (Carolyn), Brooks, AB, and half-sister Kia Robertson (Jamie), Kelowna and their daughter, Hannah; step-mother, Lucy Poggemoeller, Vernon, step-sister Elcita Young, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Barbara was beloved ‘Baba’ to Corey, Jared, and Chad of Shawnigan Lake, and Devin and Kyle of Westbank.
She was a passionate Canadian and a champion for her community. A former nominee for Kamloops Volunteer of the Year, Barbara brought her volunteer experience with the Red Cross Loan Centre and the Child Development Centre in Kamloops to benefit Chase when she and Pat retired there. As a volunteer with CHAC in Chase, she promoted wellness and the prevention of disease through health fairs, flu and baby clinics. She was an advocate for recycling; she worked tirelessly for the annual Shuswap Carvers and Woodworkers Show; she loved her quilting activity; and she was never happier than when RVing with Pat and their friends.
Barbara was so humbled by the response from her friends, acquaintances, and health care providers during her illness. A celebration of Barbara’s life will take place at the Chase Community Hall on Saturday, July 5 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Chase Health Care Foundation in Barbara’s memory would be appreciated.
