In Loving Memory ~
Christine was born in Beverley, East Yorkshire, in 1951 to Bill and Mary Henley. She spent many of her formative years overseas as her father served with the RAF, spending time in Germany and Aden which she always remembered with great nostalgia.
In 1972 she married the love of her life, Richard and in 1973, they moved to Canada to work at Shaunavon Union Hospital in Saskatchewan. There, they had two children, Emma and Nicola, and made life-long friends, most especially with the Meek family.
In 1977 she moved to Salmon Arm where Christine and Richard both worked in the hospital for several years. Christine suffered a back injury in 1982, resulting in multiple surgeries and a lifetime of pain and was subsequently unable to continue working but found great satisfaction in helping to care for her Grandchildren, Nicolas, Chelsea and Lauren during their early years.
She also volunteered with Girl Guides of Canada running the Pathfinder program for several years and ran the camping program as Camp Advisor, having great affection for the outdoors and nature but especially birds and, of course, her dogs.
Christine was very talented at handwork of all kinds, knitting, crochet, sewing and quilting among others. She was a great cook and had an extensive collection of cookbooks as well as a library of quilting and sewing books and magazines, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
She spent many hours in her garden, which was her pride and joy and has been enjoyed by those in her neighborhood for many years. The last few years brought more suffering with strokes and dementia which lead to her death, in Shuswap Lake General Hospital, on February 12th, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA branch of your choice.
The family would like to thank all the staff who interacted with Christine during her recent hospital stay, and who, despite the challenges of the current pandemic, always treated her with the utmost kindness and respect.
Christine was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Mary Henley and is survived by her husband Richard, children Emma (Larry) and Nicola (Josh), her grandchildren Nicolas, Chelsea and Lauren and her brother, Michael, brother-in-law Tony (Maureen) and nieces Dawn and Helen.
A private celebration of life will be held at her home.
