CONNIE MAE ALSTAD (nee LOCK)

May 6, 1931 - February 28, 2011

Connie passed away at Shuswap Lake General Hospital in the presence of her family. Her husband Vernon predeceased her in 2009. Connie will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Colleen (John Anthony), Donna (Derek Norton), Tim (Dawn), Kevin (Raquel), and Marina; by her grandchildren Brandon, Hilary, Lucas, Dakota, Mackenzie, and Liam; and by extended family and long-time friends.

Connie was born in Yorkton, Sask. and grew up in Sudbury before moving to Mission where she met and married Vernon in 1952. They raised their five children in Prince George and, later, in Salmon Arm. Connie will be remembered for her commitment to progressive social and political causes: women’s rights, public health care, seniors’ issues, and local agriculture; and for her articulate and often pointed letters to politicians.

A celebration of Connie’s life will be held on Saturday, March 12 from 1 to 3 pm in the family home at 3741 - 16th Ave. NE, 250-832-6657. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salmon Arm Rescue Unit or S.A.F.E. Society Women’s Shelter will be gratefully accepted.

The family would like to thank Dr. Warren Bell - Connie’s long-time physician, and the nurses on Level 2 at Shuswap Hospital for their efforts in making Connie’s last days as comfortable as possible.
