August 13, 1929 - June 22, 2018
Eileen Mae Gooch, age 88, died peacefully with family at her side on June 22, 2018 in her home at Bastion Place, Salmon Arm, BC. She was born in Punnichy, Saskatchewan on August 13, 1929.
She is predeceased by her parents, David and Mary Veitch; her husband, Bill in 1997; her brother, Dean in 2016; sister-in-law, Joyce Veitch; and brother-in-law, Ray Pakka.
Eileen is survived by her four sons, all live on the family farm in Tappen; Jamie (Alvina), Peter (Joyce), Ron (Dolores) and Rick (Rhonda); her sisters, Mary, Maxine (Horace) and Fiona (Paul); 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and numerous extended family.
In her early years Eileen lived with her family on a farm in Saskatchewan. In 1941, her dad joined the army and her mom moved the family back to BC where she bought a farm near her brother's farm in White Lake. A year later, when 12-year-old Eileen's mom died suddenly, the children's Aunt Agnes travelled out from Saskatchewan to take the children back to live with her family for a few years until their dad returned from WW2. In 1946 they moved back to the farm in BC.
Eileen met Bill Gooch at a community dance. They courted and then married on July 9, 1949. The couple resided on the family farm in Tappen and the following year their first son was born, their second in 1952 and the twins came along in 1959. Eileen was very busy raising their boys and helping Bill on the farm. She enjoyed family get-togethers, reading, knitting, bowling and walking. Eileen had belonged to the Tappen Women's Institute for several years until the birth of her twins.
Eileen had her stroke in 2002 and being a very strong-willed woman, handled the disability with grace and poise. Her family and friends will always remember her as a quiet, calm and elegant lady. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Carlin Hall at 2:00. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Eileen's life.
