George was born in Germany and immigrated to Calgary with his wife Elke and son Jorg in 1966. In 1967 his son Ralf was born. George was employed as a millwright and a mechanic until 1972 at which time he opened his own automotive repair business. After two open heart surgeries, he retired to the Shuswap in 1991. In 1992 he took the place as leader of the German Speaking Society for 15 years until his health further deteriorated. He still enjoyed the dances and coffee and cake afternoons with his friends in the club, where his humor always brought peoples laughter. George enjoyed hunting in the Rockies, boating on the Shuswap and flying his own airplane in Alberta. He loved to watch Formula 1 racing and hardly ever missed a race. George will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 50 years, his sons Jorg (Gitta) and Ralf, his grandchildren Devon, Karl and Nicole, his sisters Annemarie and Wilma (Jakob), nieces and nephews, and all his friends. Thank you to the staff of the Shuswap Lake General Hospital and special thanks to the Bastion Place nurses and staff for the excellent care. A memorial service will be held at Fischer’s Funeral Services on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 1pm followed by a reception at the Holiday Inn with lunch, coffee and cake. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations on behalf of Hans-Georg Scholl may be made to the Shuswap Hospital Foundation, Box 265, Salmon Arm, BC, V1E 4N3. We will all miss him because he was full of life and good spirits.
