Ingar Pettersen arrived on July 10, 1947 in Oslo, Norway and peacefully departed on June 11, 2011, in Salmon Arm, BC. Ingar will be lovingly remembered by his wife Calla, Ingar’s sons Shawn (Anna) and Omar (Jane) and Calla’s son Sean (Melissa). He will be greatly missed by his adoring grandkids, Felix, Erik and Sailor, Wyatt and Drake, and by his furry sidekick, Meeka. He is survived by his sister, Grethe and his nieces, Tammy, Linda and Shelly and his first wife Dorothy. Ingar is predeceased by his parents Johannes “John” and Else, his sister Amy, and his nephews Larry and David.

Ingar and his family came across from Norway in 1951 landing in New York, and then decided to make West Coast Canada home. Ingar and family spent the early years living in Coal Harbour, where his dad worked at the whaling station. Port Hardy was the next stop, before eventually settling in Surrey for his teenage years. Ingar married at the young age of 20 and had two baby boys within the next few years. He moved his young family up to Salmon Arm in 1971, built their family home and started his own business, Permaglass Sundecks. For nearly 40 years he did sundecks all over the Thompson, Okanagan, and Shuswap regions.

Ingar’s zest for life was evident in his numerous hobbies, all of which he was expert at. Whether it was R.C. planes, fishing, hunting, photography, judo, sky-diving, or scuba diving, Ingar embraced each with a dedicated passion. He was a kid-at-heart and loved a good practical joke, fireworks, and generally blowing stuff up. His potato gun hi-jinx were always a highlight at family parties.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of S.L.G.H. and Bastion Place. A Celebration of Life will be held at Skimikin Lake, Sunday, July 10, 2011, at 2:30pm. Offers of potluck gratefully accepted. Please, no dogs at the event. The family looks forward to seeing you.
