It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Jackie, our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and Friend at the Shuswap Lake General Hospital in Salmon Arm, BC at the age of 80.
Jackie was born in Sudbury, ON, to Florence and Arthur Goodall. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers-in-law, Stanley and David (Gloria); son, Tony; daughter-in-law, Marg (Donald); granddaughter, Jennifer; daughter, Cathy (Larry); and her beloved husband of over 56 years, George.
Jackie is survived by her sons, Michael (Laurie-Anne) of Abbotsford, BC and Donald of Enfield, ON; daughters, Patricia (Gene) of 100 Mile House, BC and Laura (Yves) of Arctic Bay, NU; sister, Gerri (Dave); brother, Brett (Debbra); sisters-in-law, Gloria and Bonnie (Hans); 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews from all over Canada.
Jackie cared for many foster babies in her early married life and followed George across Canada with her own babies in tow, during his early years in the military. Later, she joined the Militia and earned many commendations and awards including the RSM's trophy for Top NCO. Jackie obtained the rank of Master Warrant Officer and was one of the first 10 female MWO's in the Canadian Militia.
As a member of the Rocky Mountain Rangers (Kamloops, BC), she played an integral part in the logistical success of the Regiment's Changing of the Colours Ceremony; the first official consecrated Regimental Colours being presented by HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. She later transferred to the Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary's, Victoria, BC) where her logistical expertise made the 75th Anniversary of the Regiment a success. The celebrations included a Regimental Parade and a Royal Ball with the Regimental Colonel-in-Chief, HRH Princess Alexandra, in attendance.
Shortly after her retirement, Jackie (and George) returned to Salmon Arm, BC where she continued to contribute her logistical skills as the volunteer finance secretary for the Salmon Arm Fall Fair for many years.
The family extends our deepest gratitude to her many treasured friends and neighbours who assisted her greatly since George passed and ensured that she was not alone in her final weeks. The family also wishes to thank the staff at the Shuswap Lake General Hospital for their care and support after Mom's fall. We also extend our sincerest appreciation to Bowers Funeral Service for their compassion and care given to Mom and to our family over the years.
