Jennie Mary Hall (nee Atkinson)

Jennie Mary Hall (nee Atkinson) passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 31st, 2010 at the age of 86 years.  

Born in Vancouver, May 22, 1923, Jennie was educated at Sir Guy Carleton Elementary – a school that she also later taught at, and King Edward High School. Jennie worked as a Civil Servant for the Air Force after graduating until the war was over, and received her Permanent Teacher’s Certificate in 1947 from the Vancouver Normal School.  Jennie married Ian Mandeville and they had two children: Shirley and David.  After losing her husband, Ian in 1960, Jennie married Eldon Hall, whom she had known since she was nine years old, and they had two children: John and Donna.  Jennie and family moved to Salmon Arm in 1972, where they owned and operated the Lucky Lady Motel for a few years.  After several years of substitute teaching, Jennie began work at the Salmon Arm Library, first part-time, then as Head Librarian for two years until her retirement in 1988.  Jennie actively volunteered for the Red Cross and Hospital Auxiliary, and enjoyed singing in both the United Church Choir and the Shuswap Singers.  Jennie is survived by her children: Shirley (Doug) Stuart of Blind Bay, BC, David (Grace) Hall of Calgary, AB, and Donna (Daryl) Nolan of Prince George, BC, grandchildren: Debbie, Shelley, James, Leon, Patrick, and Amanda, great-grandchildren: Reid and Lyndon, brother: Tom (Inger) Atkinson of Lethbridge, AB, sisters-in-law: Olga Atkinson of Victoria, BC and Audrey Robson of Sidney, BC, and their families.  Predeceased by son John in 1979, and brother Robert and husband Eldon in 2003.  

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all of the nursing and care-aide staff at Piccadilly Care Centre, and the other assisted and supportive living environments that Jennie called home for the past several years.  A memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 2 pm at the First United Church, Salmon Arm.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Red Cross or United Church Choir fund.  Interment of cremated remains to follow in Surrey, BC. Arrangements entrusted to Personal Alternative Funeral Services, Armstrong, BC.
