After a lengthy battle with deteriorating health, Kathleen (Kay) succumbed to Parkinsons on Tuesday June 21 at the Beverly Centre Lake Midnapore.
Kay was born in Malden Township Amherstburg Ontario, and moved to a rural area south of Calgary where farming and raising her 2 children Arlene and Kevan were her main priorities. In 1977 the family relocated to Salmon Arm BC where they continued to farm until the late 80’s. As life will have it, Kay found herself alone for a period until meeting the bright light of her life in the early 90’s, Edgar Montigny whom she wed in August of 1998. They ignited a passion in each other for barn dances, RV travel, endless hours of cards with friends and long stretches of Winter spent in Yuma, Arizona. Somewhere in the midst of all this, they managed a trip of a lifetime to Fiji in 2004. The not so kind side of life, handed Ed a diagnosis of Parkinsons Disease in late 2004, and until his passing in December of 2007 Kay became his full time caregiver. In 2008, Kay moved to Okotoks however it was not long after that her own battles with Parkinsons began in earnest. Courageous to the end, she is now at peace once again with her beloved Ed.
Kay is survived by her daughter Arlene Dufour (Dave Heron) of Okotoks, her son Kevan Rurak ( Diane) of Millet Alberta, grand-daughter Eliza Rurak, and grandsons Dillon Rurak (Jodi), Zack Rurak, Mike Rurak, and great grandson Evan Rurak. As well she leaves behind in Amherstburg, sisters Pauline Dufour, Patricia Meloche as well as sister-in-law Marjorie Dufour.
Kay was predeceased by her parents Rose and Edward Dufour, as well as sisters Muriel Squire, Genevieve Bondy, Monica Beaudoin, Dorothy Renaud and brother Ronald Dufour.
A depth of gratitude goes out from the family to Dr. Cassandra Hoggard, the staff and caregivers of the Beverly Centre Lake Midnapore, the caring companions of Home Instead, and as well to Leanne Snodgrass. We thank each of you as well as others behind the scene, for the compassionate levels of care shown to Kay when she most needed it.
