March 1, 1955 - September 2, 2023
In Loving Memory ~
Lawrence "Gerard" Turner was born March 1, 1955, in Dawson Creek where his family farmed a small holding in Arras. The family moved to Sicamous in 1970 when his father went to work at Mica Dam.
After graduating, he worked for many years at Federated Coop Plywood and in retirement, moved on to a second career on the grounds crew at Shuswap Lake Estates Golf Course where he loved the outdoors and the game of golf.
In his youth, he enjoyed curling, hockey and fishing and later developed an interest and talent for stained glass and glass etching. He was also a skilled baker.
He passed away on September 2, 2023, after a final year of complicated illness that he accepted with grace and good humour. He was predeceased by his parents Lonzo and Jean Turner, brother Michael and sister Lorraine Sherlock as well as his good friend and father-in-law, Al Dearing.
He is survived by his wife and best friend Debra Dearing Turner, much loved sons Liam (Marika) Turner of Kelowna, Brendan Turner (Danielle Dueck) of Prince Rupert and Riley "Gedeon" Turner (Taylor Anderson) of Alexandria, Virginia and precious grandson Nicolas Turner of Kelowna.
He is also survived by sister Ramona (Dick) Horsfield, brothers in law Don (Teresa) Dearing, Mel (Celine) Sherlock and George (Pat) Boucher and sisters in law Peggy Dearing (Ray Stegar), Jeanne Boucher (Donna Morgan) and Linda Turner, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
No service by request, but there will be an immediate family gathering in the future.
The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses that gave him such kind and compassionate care during his recent hospital stay.
Donations to the Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
