Lynn Aitken entered into rest at Olds Hospital and Care Centre, on December 13, 2011 at 90 years of age. Lynn was born in Tyndall, Manitoba on September 29, 1921 to Etta and Alexander Cook. As a young woman, she moved with her family to Mission B. C. and then to Vancouver B. C. It was here that she first met Raymond Kenneth Barkley, who she married in 1949. They then took up residence in Port McNiel, B.C. This union was blessed with 5 children. Lynn and Ray moved to the Salmon Arm area where they resided until 1972. They farmed for a while and then Ray worked in the sawmill at Canoe. They then moved to Tawatinaw, Alberta where Ray once again persued his passion for farming until 1977 when his failing health caused them to move to Olds. Ray passed away in 1979 and Lynn remained in Olds. In order to maintain her independence, Lynn obtained her first driver’s licence at this time. She took up square dancing for recreation, and while dancing at Eagle Hill, she met her second husband, John Henry “Harry” Aitken. They were married in 1982 and resided in Olds until Harry’s passing in 2007. In 2009, she moved into Sunrise Village in Olds, where she resided until 2010 when she moved to the Country Lodge in Innisfail. Lynn was predeceased by her parents, her first husband Raymond, her second husband Harry, an infant son Allan Herbert, her sisters Nell and Ivy and her brother Alfred. She is survived by her two daughters, Linda (Mike) Rieberger of Bowden and Valerie Barkley of Olds and her two sons Kenneth (Mary) of Leduc and Bruce (Louise) of Eston, Saskatchewan, her grandchildren, Douglas (Susan) Rieberger, Jonina (Jeremy) Friesen, Matthew Barkley, Jessica (Dan) Andrich, Christina, Jeffrey and Stephanie Barkley, Wade (Belinda) Maillet and Christopher Maillet, and great grandchildren Kimberly, Rachael, Naomi, Justin, Jordan, Jonathon, Noah and Connor. A Memorial Service was held at First Baptist Church in Olds on Monday, December 19, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Donations in memory of Lynn may be made to the Olds Hospital and Care Centre Memorial Fund or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
