Mary Elizabeth Harrington passed away peacefully on May 20, 2020. Born in Vancouver, BC on April 11, 1928, one of five children of the Rev. Victor H. and Margaret Pattie Sansum.
Mary was predeceased by her sisters Margaret (Allen) Booth, Joan (Tom) Richards and her brothers John (Jean) and Victor (Angelica) also predeceased by her first husband Robert Phipps and in 1990 by her husband David Harrington.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia Phipps of Kelowna BC, stepdaughters Clare MacFarland and Becky Harrington and their families. Also surviving are her nephew Don Booth (Carol), great nieces Kim Booth and son Zachary, Deborah (Scott) Churko and their daughters Allison and Lauren; Heather (Kyle) Osachoff and their daughter Kaylie. Her niece Barbara (Iain) MacLeod and great niece Mairi (John) Albiston and their children Alistair, Ishbel, Harriet and Eleanor all of Glasgow Scotland; Her great nephew Alastair and son Iain of Los Angeles California. Great niece Judith English and great nephew Jay Sansum; Cousin Marion Torp (Garry) and their sons Norman and Michael. She is also survived by a large extended family.
Mary attended schools in Salmon Arm and graduated from Kitsilano High school in Vancouver and then went onto Sprott-Shaw Business College. Her work life was varied and interesting. The last thirteen years before retiring in 1988 were with the Ministry of Agriculture in Salmon Arm where she enjoyed working with the farming community and 4-H program. She enjoyed her workmates over the years, her neighbours at Andover Terrace and friends at St. Johns Anglican Church. She participated in the Okanagan Historical Society and SABNES.
