It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Nelson John McDonald, on Wednesday evening, July 25, 2018 at the age of 57 years.
Nelson passed away peacefully in the loving embrace of his wife Debby, after a short and incredibly brave battle with throat cancer.
Nelson was born in Calgary, Alberta on January 11, 1961, and moved to Salmon Arm in 1974. Athletically gifted, Nelson made many friends in his youth playing hockey, lacrosse, baseball and golf, friendships that he maintained throughout his life.
Those who knew him well would say he was happiest at home, enjoying his yard and watching his granddaughters play. He also took great pleasure in riding his Harley Davidson and tinkering on engines and vehicles. Nelson is well remembered for his quick wit, dry humor and sharp mind.
Nelson leaves behind his wife Debby, daughter Jessica (Jason), 3 granddaughters, Morgan, Madalyn and Marla; mother Joanne, sisters, Michelle (Rick) and Jamie (Ken), brothers, Brian (Merridy), Grant (Lori) and Trevor; nephews, Jeremy and Derek. And his furry friend Bongo. He is predeceased by his father, Jim and infant brother Blaine.
Thank you to everyone who supported Nelson through his courageous fight, including the Palliative Care staff at Shuswap Lake General Hospital with a special thank you to Dr. Heunis and his staff.
