In Loving Memory ~

Peter Grout, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2024, at the age of 78, after a valiant battle with Parkinson's disease.

Peter leaves behind his loving wife, Karen Grout; their children, Jeff (Kim) Grout, Phil (Kendra) Grout, and Chris (Gayle) Grout.

He was a cherished grandfather to Aiden, Rowan, Tieran, Sienne, Linnae, Amelia, Elyse, and Owen.

He is also survived by his sister, Cathy (Gary) Delo of Victoria, BC.

Peter was predeceased by his parents, Horace and Margaret Grout.

Born with a passion for chemical reactions, Peter pursued his interest vigorously, leading him to graduate in Chemical Engineering from the University of British Columbia in 1967.

His academic journey took him to London, England, where he attended Imperial College on an Athlone Fellowship and completed his PhD in Chemical Engineering.

It was during his time in Sarnia, Ontario, where he initially worked as an intern at a chemical plant, that he met his future wife, Karen Pretty, at an Engineering and Nursing dinner and dance. Their love blossomed swiftly, culminating in their marriage in September 1968, followed by a return to London where Karen worked as a nurse while Peter completed his studies.

Upon returning to Canada, Peter and Karen settled in Montreal, where they welcomed their three boys. The family later moved west for Peter to embark on a distinguished 29-year career with Imperial Oil. Peter's work was not only a source of professional fulfillment but also a foundation for numerous lasting friendships.

Retiring to the Shuswap in 2004, Peter and Karen embraced a life enriched with travel, hosting friends and family, and for Peter, a beloved pastime of fishing.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Peter's life will be held at Bower's Funeral Home, 440 10th Street SW, Salmon Arm, BC, on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
