The fact that the children’s fishing project is detrimental to the lake, fish and turtles will never sway those who feel nothing for the suffering of others. When a person has no feeling they are incapable of caring or respecting.
To encourage children to catch a fish and watch it struggle for its life as it’s pulled from the water by a hook piercing the roof of its mouth, not because we need or want the food but simply because it’s “fun,” will only teach them to feel nothing for other life forms.
The next generation is our only hope to turn around the environmental catastrophe we have created. This will never happen if today’s children become adults who are not even capable of realizing the magnitude of suffering humans are causing. The McGuire Lake fishing project will only perpetuate the very lack of respect for nature that it is claiming to remedy.
