Technology not always right

In reference to Mike Taylor’s letter last week in which he states, “The public embraced digital technology long ago,” I wish to say… because everyone embraces something does not make it right.

Smoking was embraced in the ’50s until enough research was done and enough people spoke out about its harmful effects on health. It was only then laws were passed to prevent smoking in public places.

Why can’t we create laws insisting that companies prove their products are not harmful before those products are forced upon us?

I understand in many European countries smart meters are banned until the company proves they are not harmful to their citizens. Apparently 13 communities in B.C. have already requested the B.C. government place a moratorium on Smart Meters until more research has been conducted and a safe alternative is found.

It’s important that all of us educate ourselves along with our city council and support them in requesting a moratorium on Smart Meters.
