Community invited to Minor Hockey Day

Salmon Arm Minor Hockey Day is coming to the Sunwave Centre in the New Year on Saturday, Jan. 7.

Salmon Arm Minor Hockey Day is coming to the Sunwave Centre in the New Year on Saturday, Jan. 7.

The local minor hockey association will be celebrating its 50th year of operation in this community.

A number of activities are planned for the day including rep and recreation games, a barbecue and a great chili cookoff competition.

It will be a homecoming for the past provincial winning teams which include the 1970-’71 Juvenile team, the ’91-’92 Bantam team, the ’92-’93 Bantam and Midget teams and the 2008-’09 Female Midget team.

A special banquet honouring these players and coaches will be held at Sunwave Centre on this day as well. Close to 40 members of these teams have indicated their attendance.

The evening will culminate with all current SAMHA teams invited to attend the Penticton Vees versus Salmon Arm Silverbacks BCHL game at 7 p.m.  Tickets will be provided courtesy of SAMHA and the Silverbacks.
