The Saints were able to outshine the Golds in a match up in the pouring rain last Friday, earning their first win of the season.
“It’s never easy to play in a sloppy game like that. Unfortunately Langley capitalized much more than we were able to,” said Golds head coach Jordan Grieve.
The Golds defence started out brightly, forcing four fumbles from Langley on their first four possessions.
Despite the advantageous field position the Golds had after the turnovers they failed to score a major.
Kicker Alton Neid scored the only points for the Golds on a 15-yard field goal.
Jayden Mourato and his offence struggled to click, as Mourato threw three interceptions in the game.
As the weather deteriorated in the second half, Langley found their footing, scoring two majors in quick succession. The final score was 17-3 for the Saints.
“I think we all know we have to be better. I was hoping for a much better outcome, Hopefully we can rebound with a positive week of practice and get our first season W this week,” Grieve said.
The Golds will play host to the Argyle Pipers from North Vancouver on Friday.
Argyle earned their second win of the season in as many games against Robert Bateman last week, and sit atop the Eastern Conference standings.
Kickoff against the Pipers is Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Jackson campus field.
