The Chase Heat’s franchise record winning streak now sits at 10 consecutive games after a pair of victories this past week.
Thursday, Nov. 10 at the Art Holding Memorial Arena, the Heat claimed two points off the Sicamous Eagles with a 7-3 win. Two nights later, they welcomed the Summerland Steam to AHMA and were rewarded with a 3-1 two pointer.
In between the pair of games, they attended the Remembrance Day Parade and service. It was a busy, rewarding and educational three days in the village.
Behind solid goaltending from Zak Larson against the Eagles, the lads let the visitors score the lone marker of the first period by Logan Middleton. The second was all Chase as Josh Bourne led the way with two goals and one assist. The first one was from Michael Howlett and Grady Musgrave. Bourne then scored a power-play tally, assisted by Ryan Okino and Cody Hodges. Kolten Moore on the power play made it 3-1, with the help of Okino and Bourne.
In the third, Cameron Flinton for the Eagles got them close, before the Heat got turned up. Kaden Black from Zachary Fournier and Spencer Farstad, followed by Howlett from Bourne and Mason Palaga, and then Hodges from Landon Russell and Okino. Cody Milgate popped in a third goal for Sicamous prior to Black closing out scoring from Fournier and Farstad. The team’s ninth win in a row a 7-3 win.
Saturday night saw the local squad being polite again as the Steam’s Everett Scherger got the only goal of the first. In the second, Pat Brady evened the game from Moore and Farstad. In the third, Michael Fidanza gave Chase the lead from Bourne and Howlett. Howlett banged in an empty-netter from Fidanza and Brady to ease the intense drama. Nic Bruyere closed the door on all but one of the 33 he faced to backstop his teammates to their 10th victory in a row.
This contest featured the two leading teams in the Okanagan Shuswap Conference, with Chase earning the decision of the best in the west.
STONES, BROOMS and PEBBLES:
The Heat, through a very generous offer by the Chase Curling Club, have established a Monday Night Curling League. So after dropping sticks and skates, the boys have opted to slip slide away while tossing stones on the pebbled ice. Kids and adults alike are welcome to go down and giggle as their favourite Heat player looks awkward end after end. The curling club is kindly providing instruction and equipment as the shinny stars learn the lifelong art of sweeping and tossing rocks.
