Junior curlers in Salmon Arm show winning style

Twelve teams from 100 Mile House, Kamloops, Chase, Armstrong, Winfield and Salmon Arm participated in the Salmon Arm Junior Bonspiel.

Good form: Ethan Vaniderstine and Joseph Calvert sweep for skip Brandon Boyd at the Salmon Arm Junior Open Curling Bonspiel held over the weekend at the curling club.

A total of 12 teams from 100 Mile House, Kamloops, Chase, Armstrong, Winfield and Salmon Arm participated in the Novice and Super Novice Divisions of the Salmon Arm Junior Bonspiel on Feb. 18.

In the Super Novice Division (young beginning curlers) first place went to Team Steadman of Salmon Arm, second place to Team Roebuck  of Salmon Arm and third place to Team Lewis of Chase.

In the Novice Division (10 to 13 year olds) first place went to Team Lindner of 100 Mile House, second place to Team Chapple of Armstrong and a tie for third place with Team Taylor of 100 Mile House and Team Belway of Salmon Arm.

Thanks to the generosity of nearly 60 business and individual sponsors and a great volunteer effort from parents and grandparents, participants enjoyed a full day of curling, food, prizes and fun.

Intermediate Winners from the Junior Bonspiel on the weekend were as follows:

A – Brendan Cliff Team from Armstrong with 3rd Brendan Chapple, 2nd Devon Schmidt, lead Matt Young and 5th Derek King.

B – Jessie DeSousa Team from Chase with 3rd Andrew Fleming, 2nd Daniel Hoffman and lead Cameron Coates.

C – Jaelyn Cotter Team from Vernon with 3rd Jeremy Woo, 2nd  Clare Schmidt, lead Courtney Woo.
