Junior Golds sweep tournament

The Junior Golds Basketball team faced stiff competition in a tournament held at the Sullivan Campus gym over the weekend

The Junior Golds Basketball team faced stiff competition in a tournament held at the Sullivan Campus gym over the weekend but managed to win all three of their games.

The Junior Golds opened the tournament with a 64-41 win against Fulton Secondary from Vernon.

Alton Neid put up 15 points including a perfect four of four from the free throw line. He also had nine rebounds.

Other standouts on the stat sheet were Noah Jansen, who had 10 points and three blocked shots and Evan Smith, with 16 points.

Later that evening, Salmon Arm came up against South Okanagan from Oliver. The Golds won 64-23.

Jorge Arrazola-Sam was the game star with 16 points, including four three pointers. Darian Sundby also scored 10 points.

The Junior Golds faced South Kamloops in the third game of the tournament, resulting in a 53-36 win.

Evan Smith put up 15 points and had perfect accuracy beyond three-point range, sinking three of three.

Noah Jansen had another strong game with 10 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots for a double-double. Jansen was awarded the tournament Defensive All-Star for Salmon Arm for his work protecting the basket.

Coaches Keith Limber and Rob Neid were very pleased with their team’s grit defensively all weekend, limiting opponents to very low scores.

“We are progressing very well and peaking at the right time with playoffs just around the corner,” Neid said.
