Juniors dig deep during rookie event

Fifteen junior tennis players competed in the Rookie Tour Tennis Tournament at the Salmon Arm Tennis Club on Saturday, Aug. 24.

The tournament was the only Rookie Tour in the Interior as others were cancelled due to insufficient numbers. Players came from Calgary, Kelowna and Kamloops to join the Salmon Arm juniors.

Coach Doug Rawson, tournament director, was pleased with the event and was appreciative of the many volunteers who came out to help.

In the U-10 category Jonathan Breugem placed second while Julia VanBuskirk took third.

In the U-12 category Susannah Wark took second place and August Thomson placed third.

In the U-14 category Wallis Thomson took first, Emily Wark took second and Jackson Wark took third.

Aaliyah Martin, Robyn de Wet and Antony de Wet also competed on Saturday.

The Salmon Arm Tennis Club will be hosting the SASCU Salmon Arm Open Tournament, which attracts athletes from all around the province, Sept. 20-22.
